How to Verify my Hakko 498/ FG-470 wrist strap tester is functioning up to Spec

The Hakko 498 / FG-470 System Tester ensures operator safety by informing you to the presence of static electricity and by checking grounding systems.

 This unit can be verified using a decade resistance box and the 498 Verification method.

 

The 498-verification method is as follows.

1. Plug in the lead provided with the 498/ FG-470.

2. Set the decade resistance box to the resistance values below and connect it between the clip on the 498 lead and one end of the test lead.

3. Press the touch-plate down with the free end of the test lead. Be sure to hold the insulated portion of the lead so that body resistance does not enter the loop.

4. Check the reading against the verification points below to verify upper and lower limits.

 

Room temperature: 23’C/73.4F

Room humidity: 20%-80%

 

The verification points for 498 serial numbers within the range of (SN 4980400105 or smaller) are.

474.8Kohms to 475.2Kohms (LED shows LOW and there is no buzzer sound)

524.8Kohms to 525.2Kohms (LED shows GOOD and buzzer sound is on)

9.498Mohms to 9.502Mohms (LED shows GOOD and buzzer sound is on)

10.498Mohms to 10.502Mohns (LED shows HIGH and there is no buzzer sound)

 

**** NOTE USE FOLLOWING VALUES FOR FG-470 **** 

The verification points for 498 serial numbers within the range of (SN 4980400106 and higher) are.

799.7Kohms to 800.1Kohms (LED shows LOW and there is no buzzer sound)

879.8Kohms to 880.2Kohms (LED shows GOOD and buzzer sound is on)

8.098Mohms to 8.102Mohms (LED shows GOOD and buzzer sound is on)

9.098Mohms to 9.102Mohns (LED shows HIGH and there is no buzzer sound)
