The long-life crucibles for the Hakko FX-300, FX-301, FX-301B and FX-305 Solder Pots have been treated to prevent corrosion by increasing the surface hardness of the crucible material using an aluminum diffusion treatment process.  Testing was conducted on the crucibles using Sn100 solder at a temperature of 490°C. Both 50x50mm and 75x75mm sizes of standard and long-life crucibles were tested under these conditions.  Results of the testing showed that the standard crucibles began to show corrosion after about 500 hours of exposure. The long-life crucibles did not show corrosion until 3500 hours of exposure.
