The metal sleeve inside my tip has come out. Is it needed?

Administrator
General FAQs

The metal sleeve inside your tip is there to protect the inside of the tip from corrosion. If this sleeve has come out, it indicates that the body of the tip has exceeded its service life and should be replaced. Using the tip without this sleeve will result in poor performance since there is now an increased air gap between the heating element and the body of the tip.  This air gap will inhibit heat transfer from the heater to the tip and may result in lower tip temperatures and poor thermal recovery . This gap will also provide for a tough fit onto the iron in some cases .
